While He Wandered

While He Wandered

The youngest of four siblings, Samu* wasn’t keen on school. Instead, he would wander the streets while his uncle, who was their guardian, went out to work as a day labourer. Then, Deepak* and Kareena* started a tuition centre for the children of the community to access much-needed support for their education.

Samu and two of his sisters began showing up, and soon, Deepak and Kareena noticed Samu’s joy for learning and keen interest in his studies. Though they wondered why he chose not to enrol in his primary school, they encouraged his skills of memorisation and recitation, watching him grow day by day. He found love, care and excitement that he did not have before in his education.

The couple supported him with their limited resources and prayed for the right environment that could nurture him mentally, physically and spiritually – building within him the desire to attend and engage. Soon, they connected the family to a Christian hostel for orphans in the next city that was willing to shelter and educate him. After one and a half years resisting the move, his uncle agreed to Samu enrolling there.

For a family that has faced many challenges, Samu’s educational trajectory has brought great hope and encouragement. The young student continues to take pride in learning and accepts every challenge that comes his way. What brings Deepak, Kareena and their community the most joy, however, is Samu’s love for Jesus and seeing him grow spiritually.

As Samu starts middle school, he has been accepted into a prestigious international school in their state. His family, though not fully aware of the value of education and of life in Christ, is excited to see where life takes him as God continues to open impossible doors for him.

Pray for:

  • Samu: as he continues to grow in his love for learning and for Jesus.
  • Samu’s family: their journey of faith, particularly as his sisters continue to be a part of the tuition centre
  • Deepak and Kareena: their various ministry initiatives with children, churches and communities around them
  • Their nation: Deepak and Kareena serve in a part of South Asia where it is increasingly difficult to share the gospel
  • Trust and safety: For a safe environment in all their ministries, for people to engage in open conversation and fellowship as they share the love of Christ
