02 Oct Saved by the Light of the World
As an eight-year-old, Sona* loved listening to stories about Jesus. She first heard about Him from her grandmother, who was the only Christian in their family at the time. Her grandma would regale her with stories from the Bible on how the world came to be, great battles of the past, and wonderful miracles by Jesus.
But Sona also lived under a great shadow. Many evil spirits tormented her, and she lived daily in physical and mental agony. Her family and community pushed her to offer sacrifices to the spirits in the hopes that the offerings might appease them, but she found no respite from her tortured reality.
One day, as she felt the spirits about to take over, her grandmother’s voice floated through her memories, telling the stories of Jesus – a man who forgave sins and commanded power over spirits. In desperation, she prayed earnestly for courage to face her demons, yearning to be free of all that tormented her.
It took but a moment, and she felt the spirits depart. It was all Sona needed to give her life to serve Christ. She felt herself anchor to God, and for the first time, did not feel the world swaying beneath her feet. Soon after, she learned of a training programme that Paul*, a Co-MP with AsiaCMS, had introduced near her village. With her pastor’s encouragement, she began her training.
“I have experienced the terror that evil spirits cause, and the session on Breaking Spiritual Bondages reinforced how many people out there need Jesus,”, she says.
Her call is not easy. Sona faced much rejection but also led more than 20 people to Christ during the training programme. She now eagerly looks forward to discipling others in the remote, surrounding areas of her village, and helping many find the freedom that only Jesus offers.
Pray for:
- Sona and her ministry
- The trainers and leaders living in conflict zones of border tensions in Southeast Asia
- Peace and healing as affected communities face the realities of their homes and villages being destroyed
- Paul: for God’s provision as he continues his ministry
