10 Dec THE 10PM CALL: How Fear was Transformed into Faith
Co-Mission Partner Hannah*, and her team work tirelessly with vulnerable children and families, providing refuge and support in a region where pain and brokenness are heartbreakingly common. Their ministry is a place where deep wounds can begin to heal, and new life springs from unexpected places.
One evening, Hannah received a phone call from a student in distress. It was past 10 p.m., and the child’s family was in crisis due to domestic violence. The team rushed over to find three deeply traumatized children caught in the middle of their parents’ conflict.
Over the next few days, Hannah’s team provided constant support and intervention, even rescuing the mother and children from a violent assault. They secured a safe shelter for the two daughters, where the long process of healing began. As they received counseling and care, the children’s hearts slowly started to soften. The older sister began to open up, but it was the younger, more reserved sister who showed the most profound change.
Little by little, the shadows of fear began to lift, and a smile returned to the face of the quiet little girl. Then, one day, the mother called Hannah with an unexpected update: “Teacher, both my daughters told me they want to become Christians.” The mother, who had previously been resistant to the idea, told Hannah that she trusted her to guide them. “If this God is truly good and helps them,” she said, “then let them choose. In fact, I want to know this God too.”
It was a powerful testament to the spiritual healing that was taking place in their lives.
For the team, being a part of stories like these brings healing for them as well. As one volunteer reflected, the words of comfort spoken to the child were words she herself needed to hear. The ministry has witnessed how God turns rejection into acceptance and pain into purpose, calling those who feel unseen into His own loving embrace.
“Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me.” (Psalm 27:10)
Pray for:
- The growth of the ministry as Hannah currently leads the social work department, overseeing three shelters, and serves as part of the executive leadership team.
- The girls from the shelter have returned to their home countries and are being abused by their mothers for becoming followers of Christ.
- Hannah’s family as they have not yet come to faith. Pray that the Holy Spirit will touch their hearts and that she may be a strong testimony among them.
