Fleeing Violence to Find A Future: Dara’s Journey to Rebuilding Her Life

Helen is a Co-Mission Partner that founded a recovery center that offers education, employment and emergency care to women who have been exploited within Southeast Asia, specifically in Thailand.

A few months ago, Helen and her team met Dara*, a young mother living in a temporary shelter with her two children. Dara had fled intense violence and was struggling with severe anxiety, insomnia, and hopelessness.

Without legal status, she could not work, and her children had no access to school.

Through Helen’s displacement mapping work in Thailand, Dara was identified and connected to their services. She received medical check-ups at one of the mobile clinics run by Helen’s team and began attending a trauma healing group.

The team also provided her with a menstrual health kit and hygiene supplies, which she said gave her “dignity in a place where it felt like I had none.”

Working closely with local officials, Helen’s team helped Dara enroll her children in a community school where over time, she began sleeping better, laughing again, and making plans for her family’s future.

Dara’s story is proof that integrated care—physical, emotional, and practical—can restore hope and dignity, even amidst displacement.

Helen’s team eagerly awaits many more testimonies of what God is doing through their work, as they continue to reach out to marginalized communities and share the gospel of hope.

Pray for:

  • Sustained resources to keep trauma support and counselling programmes running consistently.
  • Continued favor and collaboration with local authorities to improve access for undocumented and displaced people.
  • Protection, health, and stamina for the teams who travel to remote and high-risk areas.
